Groom cake of the week 7/21/10

Turtle Power. Cowabunga dude. This awesome TMNT reminds me growing up in the 80's/90's. Which is why this cake was selected for cake of the week

FYI - The purpose if posting a groom cake of the week is not to promote vendors but to promote ideas of groom cakes for any potential future groom.

A year from tomorrow I’m getting married

Well it’s official. My unmarried day remains 365 nights from today. June 18th, 2011 I will be married to my wonderful fiancée. Our lives will be forever changed. We are in great shape right now for our wedding. All of our vendors are booked. Our Hall/hotel has been booked. Our photo, video, flowers and bakery for wedding cake have all been booked. Everyone likes to ask me how our wedding planning coming along is. I do have to admit its been an easy process. As long as you book everything right away once you’re engaged you’re allowing yourself plenty of free time. Which is why I’m able to blog about ideas and other stuff in this blog…lol

154lbs as of Today

After being engaged for a month both my fiancée and I decided we need to get in shape for our wedding. We didn’t want to start 3 months or 6 months or even a year before our wedding to get into shape. We have committed ourselves to better healthy life. We plan to stick to this commitment far into our long marriage. Nov 15th 2009. I was 168lbs. I’m happy as of today June 16th that I’m now 154lbs. That’s 14lbs lost (.5lbs per week)

My first step of losing weight was to hire a personal trainer. We needed to learn how to properly workout. For 5 months until I felt conformable I’ve worked out with the trainer twice a week. Each session he gave us wonderful diet tips. After our engagement party two months ago I promised to join a gym. Now I work out 4 days a week. I really enjoy making my health and exercise a top priority.
My diet consists of the following:

1) No soda or carbonated beverages.
2) Drink plenty of water.
3) No bread. Once a week if you have a piece it’s not going to hurt you
4) Pasta became wheat pasta
5) If you do eat bread have wheat bread
6) White rice became brown rice
7) Eating 3x a day (healthy breakfast, Healthy lunch and healthy dinner.
8) Avoid sweets (Cookies, Cakes, donuts and anything packed with sugar)
If you do have any sweets make sure its for the right occasion
9) Eat your veggies

My workout’s consist of the following:
Day 1 – Chest, Back, Traps
Day 2 – Legs
Day 3 – Arms and shoulders
Day 4 – ABS
You also want to throw in two days of cardio.

Ed Hardy White wine

During this past weekend we decided to hang out at a friend’s house. Its proper manners to bring something over when going over someone’s house regardless of the occasion. My friend was having a bad day so I’ve asked if she would prefer either some beer or wine for us to bring over. I’ve provided the option. I’m a good person for that. Since my friend suggested that she prefers white wine over beer. I’ve decided to go visit a near by liquor/wine store. I was shocked when I’ve seen a bottle of white wine with the Ed Hardy logo over it. So I’ve decided to be adventurous and try it out. It was pretty good. I was also informed from the counter guy that Ed Hardy makes not only a white wine but also a Red wine and vodka. So if you want to add Ed Hardy to your wedding for beverages that I suggest you should give them a tasting

Groom Cake of the week 7/14/10

Thanks to Tieapedia for this week’s submission. Especially with father’s day right around the corner of for those grooms that want to be Gordon Gekko. That’s exactly what this groom cake reminds me of. Also check out other tie cakes that Tieapedia.com posted on there blog.

Sports team toasters

While shopping with my finance this past weekend I’ve came across this awesome MLB team logo toaster. It imprints your favorite team logo on the toast. How awesome is that? This could make a nice gift for your grooms or something to add to a bridal registry when our future bride is not looking. Cough…cough. They also make Team logo toasters for football, Hockey and basketball. Two friends recently bought homes and for a house warming gift I’ve bought one for a Yankees fan and another for a Boston Red Sox fan. It was really painful to order the Red Sox one. But I still managed to do so.

Check out www.pangeabrands.com to learn more about the sports team toasters. I'm sure any sports nut you know would like this gift

Grooms cake of the week (6/7/10)

Hey All,

I've decided to add for a new feature of this blog is to post groom's cake of the week. Every Monday a new cake will be posted.

I found this while searching on google "Groom's cakes". Why did I decide to make a Nintendo controller the first cake you ask? Anyone born the late 70’s/80’s played Nintendo and its part of my childhood. Plenty of hours were spent with this controller.

If you would like to submit a cake for next week. Email us at groomwars@gmail.com

My fantasy groom’s wedding ring

I know plenty of us guys out there are into Sports. I’m talking about real Man sports. You know the one’s that include a ball like for example: Baseball, football, basketball and soccer. The 2009 Yankees World series ring is amazing. You would have to be either a player or an employee of the Yankees to be entitled to owning it. I’d choose that ring to wear over any wedding ring. I’m sure when Derek Jeter get married later on this year that he would most likely wear an actual wedding band. However nothing could compare to his current collect of 5 World Series rings. However the 2009 World Series ring I think is the best championship ring out of any sport out there. This past week I was able to see the 2009 World Series ring in person. I’ve taken a picture of the ring and compared it to my actual (groom’s engagement ring that my finance gave me). The Yankees World Series ring is very impressive. If I had to choose any fantasy wedding ring to wear it would surely be this one.

New layout

Hey future Grooms out there. We have made changes to our site. I hope you like it. If you have any idea’s or suggestions you can now leave comments.

Thanks,

I’ve attending our first wedding of the year:

So wedding season has officially started for us as of Memorial Day weekend. So far we have been invited to 4 weddings this year. The first wedding we attending was a beach theme wedding. The wedding took place on the Jersey shore. There was fist pumping going on...lol. The wedding was for my best friend’s sister. She looked amazing. The weather was amazing. The ceremony was outdoors as well as the cocktail hour. The reception was indoors. I also really enjoyed my Chilean Sea bass entrée.

One wedding down. 3 more to attend this year.

Guy’s night out/Girls night out

Hello my future grooms. I’m sure it’s been awhile since you might have seen your close guy friends. I strongly suggest that you should arrange time within your busy schedules for a guy’s night out. You should also suggest to your fiancée that she should also do a girls night out. Mine was long over due. Saturday night with my close guy friends we went to a bar into the Manhattan to watch the subway series. I’m a big time Yankees fan. I know they lost on Saturday but it didn’t stop us from having a good time and drinking a lot of beers. It was nice to catch up with my close guy friends. While I was with my best buds, my fiancée went out with one of her bridesmaid to celebrate her birthday. So she had her own girl’s night out.

So the moral of the story is that I strongly suggest that even though there’s a lot going on with your lives. You should still make time for your close friends and hang out whenever you can before having kids that take over your lives..lol

I’ve joined a gym recently and you should too.

Health and fitness is a lifestyle. You should incorporate it into your daily routine for the rest of your life. I originally hired a personal trainer 5 months before our engagement party for my fiancée and me to get into shape. It was a great experience. My fiancée has a gym in her basement. Treadmill, stepper, an abs device, a bike and I brought over my workout bench plus we had various dumbbells. However we need to come up with a routine and a diet. So that’s where the personal trainer came in. 2x a week he taught us the proper ways to work out lift and assigned diets. The gym is perfect for my fiancée. However I outgrew it very fast. So I’ve recently joined LA fitness as a promise to my trainer after we had our engagement party last month.

Guys unless your already looking like “the situation” then you should work out and join a gym. If you’re spending a lot of money or want to look great for your wedding/photos/honeymoon and for the rest of your life then it starts now. If you got days, weeks, months or years before you’re married. Your health & fitness starts NOW. Stop making excuses. If you can devote half an hour to an hour a day on your self then your wasting your time and everyone else’s. If you like TV then invest in a DVR/Tivo so you can record your favorite programs. You could also either wake up a little bit earlier then you normally do or go to sleep a little bit later then your normally do. STOP making excuses. It all starts now. Since Jan I’ve lost 11 pounds. I’m very happy with my results. I’m 5’5 and I originally weighed 168. My goal is 145-150lbs. I’m halfway there now that I’m 157lbs. I don’t need to lose a lot of weight but I like to have a better physical appearance. I also want to have very nice abs, arms, chest and etc when I’m walking along the beach in Hawaii June 2011. Those are my goals. Plus 30 years from now when I’m looking back at my wedding/honeymoon photos I want to remember that I looked the best I could ever be. I’ve made It my goal to get in shape. So should you.

TLC 4 Wedding’s. I like this show

My fiancée just got me into watching TLC’s 4 weddings. It’s an interesting show. It’s about 4 Brides that attend each other’s weddings and rate each wedding. The winning Bride that has the best wedding among the 4 brides gets an all expense paid honeymoon. I do like how they show you the highlights of all 4 weddings and how the real brides rate each other’s affair. I’ve only watched 2 episodes so far. But I’m already hooked. Some lessons I’ve learned so far from watching.

The Ceremony – Make sure everyone can view the couple getting married and can sit down. People don’t like standing. Plus if you have guests that can’t stand this would be a major issue.

The Cocktail hour –
Make sure there’s a great flow from your guests to and from the cocktail designated areas. Also make sure when they are passing hors d’oeuvres that there’s plenty to go around and the waiters/waitress are very visible.

The reception – Guests like to see the traditional stuff that you see at a wedding. Cake cutting, first dance, dance if possible with parents, and the best man/maid/matron of honor speeches (Don’t have long speeches, just funny and direct) your guests should know and like to PARTY. They should all be dancing. Great Music. Either and awesome DJ/MC or Live Band .

Food – Must have great Food

The show focus on the Brides wedding dress, wedding venue, Food and overall experience. But for my blog purposes. The groom should concern himself with the Entertainment and Food.

What to give at an engagement party? or any function in General

This is a very complicated question. There’s no right or wrong answer to this. Everyone has a different approach. There are many things to consider. First off the engagement party is the first of series of gift offering opportunities. There’s also the bridal party, bachelor and bacherlorette party and mostly the important party the wedding. When we had our engagement party we left it upon our guests to choose whatever gift they would like to give. We got very nice gifts. Thanks to everyone that showed up. So I don’t understand why someone could be appalled that we didn’t do a gift registry for our engagement party. Since it was the guest’s choice of what they felt comfortable to give. Everyone does parties differently. I will admit our engagement party was not your average engagement party. Guests that attend said it was like a Mini-wedding.

Some couples are living together for a few years prior to being engaged or married and won’t do a gift registry for household needs. I’ve heard of one couple for the upcoming bridal shower would ask for honeymoon upgrades (Scuba diving lessons, couple’s massage, show tickets and other things related to there honeymoon). Some wedding websites they say it’s up to the couple if they would like to put into either there engagement party, bridal shower or wedding gift registry information. A few websites that I’ve read also said that guests might be appalled that you’re giving instructions of where they should shop for gifts.

I like the simple approach. The gift that folds and crinkles. You could never go wrong with giving cash, check or gift cards. Just be careful with the giftcards if you think the company is not doing well and might not be around for a long time. I’ve learned from my economics class during college. “A dollar is worth today then tomorrow”. I’m also very leery when it comes to bring a gift anywhere. I’m afraid it would get damage or lost.

How I stole the show at our engagement party? Part 2

I’m a huge Michael Jackson fan. (RIP King of POP). I’ve originally wanted to perform with my groomsman the Beat-it. I figured it’s not a hard song to dance too. (Thriller is very complicated) and I also emailed my groosman you-tube videos that shows avg people teaching you MJ’s moves. However all of my groomsman became chickens and didn’t want to perform. After a minor unfountnate incident where one of my guests passed out and EMT’s had to come into the middle of the party to escort the guy out. You know your party is going well someone passes out and leaves on a stretcher. I had something to get everyone back on the dance floor. It was “BEAT-IT TIME”. I brought with my MJ sequence glove and preformed BEAT it all by myself. It really got the party back on its feat. Everyone loved it.

(The Picture posted from this past Halloween where I’m dressed at Beat-it MJ)

How I stole the show at our engagement party? Part 1

First off the day before our engagement party it was my Finance’s 30th birthday. I’ve wanted to do something over the top for her. One of Stacey’s recent favorite shows is Cake Boss. I’ve decided one day before going to work that I should order a custom cake from Carlo’s bakery. Since our engagement party was going to be a Tiffany & Co. Theme I’ve decided to get her a Tiffany themed custom cake. It was red velvet and Chocolate Moose. It was the one of the moments of the night that people won’t forget or the taste of the truly amazing cake. It was money well spent. Our hall for the engagement party did provide us with a cake. But we ONLY wanted the cake that I brought it. I’ve decided the best time to bring out the cake was when our hall was going to server our deserts. The cake was also very heavy and I had to hold it during the whole entire time we sang happy birthday.

We finally had our engagment party

Hey all,

Sorry i've not blogged in a bit. April has been a very busy month for us. We finally had our engagement party. I will update more often after this point. Sorry to disapoint those who follow my blog.

Cake boss wedding cake you better book 6 months in advance

Are you looking for a custom cake in the NY/NJ Metro area? Have you seen the show on TLC “Cake Boss”? I recently found out that they have plenty of cakes being made for weddings for the next 6 months and they strongly suggest if you want a cake that you should book 6 months in advance. Carlo’s bakery is in Hoboken, NJ.

Beware of future brides that only want to get engaged just for the ring.

Warning to future grooms. I’ve heard on the radio on my way to work today that a New York couple broke off there engagement due to the future ex-groom figured there was something no kosher about his future bride. According to the article they were only dating for 6 weeks then they got engaged. Honestly guys if you look at the picture of this gold-digger she’s nothing special to look at. She must be really good in bed or something for a guy to spend 58,000 dollars on a 4 cart ring. The sucker felt pressured into buying her the expensive ring. According to the article right after his ex-fiancée got the ring she had it appraised in her name for 70,000. The former groom realized something was wrong when she didn’t want his grandparents to attend there future wedding. He also realized she must have got engaged other times prior makes her career from engaged and then selling the ring. According to the article she lied about having a job as well. I really hope this guy gets back the engagement ring. On another hand the former ex-groom is lucky he didn’t get her pregnant during her con. He could of ended up paying her for child support for the next 18 years. So future grooms’ out there be careful for needy women.

I’d rather be a Groomsman then a Bridesmaid

First off it’s very impossible to see me in a dress. Nor would you ever want to see my in a dress. So the chances of me ever becoming a Bridesmaid are very unlikely. I’ve been a groomsman twice prior to this year. I’ve recently been asked to be a groomsman this year and next year I’d actual be the GROOM. I don’t think my days of being a groomsman is going to over anytime soon. I’d like to think I could be a groomsman one or two more times.

It’s so much cheaper and easier to be a groomsman then a Bridesmaid. That’s if you’re renting your Tuxedo’s. Unless you’re going to a wedding and the bridal party grooms are all buying custom Tuxedo’s. Once the guy’s are in there Tuxedo’s they don’t have to do much with there hair. Unlink Bridesmaids they have to get there hair & Makeup done. Besides they actual own there Bridesmaid dress that they might only wear once in there life or lucky if they could reuse that dress for another purpose. Being a groomsman is much easier then being a Bridesmaid.

From buying and Ipod to having and Iwedding

You know the story guy meets girl. Guy Marries Girl. However this Groom was able to pick up his future Bride while buying and ipod. Thumbs up to this groom. However it was suitable to having and iwedding at the place they first both meet at. I guess there next destination is an ihoneymoon. Read more about this story at: http://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/local-beat/NY-Couple-Holds-iWedding-84947097.html

So how am I getting to my wedding?

During a recent gathering with friends of mine someone mentioned what would my Grand Entrance going to be for my wedding next year? How am I going to show up? One friend suggests that my Finance and I should arrive to our Wedding Venue by Helicopter. Another Friend suggested a horse and carriage. So I figured why not write for today’s blog ideas that I would consider my mode of transportation. Since my wedding venue is a short drive from my house I was thinking the following:

1) Rolls Royce either a recent Phantom Edition or vintage one.
2) Mercedes S class or Maybach
3) 57 Chevrolet Bel Air
4) A 70’s muscle car. (Cameo or Mustang)
5) Farrari
6) Lamborghini

Groom’s Cake

This is a must for my fellow groomwars fan’s out there. As the motto of the website says “Weddings are not always about the Bride but also what the groom wants as well”. Groom’s cakes are becoming more popular these days. What original started in southern American is becoming more popular all over these days. The current trend of the groom’s cake is to reflect the groom’s hobbies, sports teams and other interests and passions. I’ve recently watched an episode of the show “Cake Boss” Buddy made for his sister in law’s wedding of a grooms cake. It was “The Boot” If you have seen beerfest then you would know what I’m talking about. “The Boot” is a larger pitcher of beer that’s shaped as a boot in which you drink from. I’m a big time New York Yankees fan and I’d be very impressed if I were to get a Yankees themed Grooms Cake. Time will tell.

Girls can get very jealous and create Drama

I’ve first hand witness how friends that I’ve know for a long time can easily change when someone has something they don’t. I’m in my upper 20’s and around the range in life a majority of friends am now getting engaged and married. My fiancée recently attend a Bridal shower of a friend of mine that I’ve know for a long time. While attending this Bridal shower another friend of mine finally had the chance to see my fiancée’s engagement ring. A few days after the Bridal shower this so-called long time friend who’s not engaged decided to let me know that my fiancée was flashing her ring around the whole entire Bridal shower. There was serious drama over this. I’m sorry it’s not my fault your almost 30 and not engaged, married or with kids yet. I’m sorry that I’ve worked hard to provide my fiancée with an amazing engagement ring. Plus if you have know my fiancée any better and realized the other factors going on during the party you would of never said what rude things you said.

Its 2/1/10

It’s February 1st. It’s the shortest month of the year and one month closer to your wedding/engagement party/proposal. It’s also Valentines Day this month. Since we are in savings mode, I’ve suggested to my finance that we should have a small Valentines Day gift budget. No need to break the bank on this Hallmark holiday. Besides the more we spend on each other the longer/harder it will be for saving towards the wedding. Be Simple. A card, some flowers and a box of chocolate is sufficient. Or perhaps something wedding related could work.

I’ve attend our first Bridal Show

We have been engaged for a couple of months now. There was a Bridal show this past week held at our future wedding Hall. I was very fascinated with the whole experience. As soon as we walked in there were trumpeters playing and was instantly sold on the idea. I’ve been to plenty of weddings before but not with Trumpeters greeting you. It gives that Royal treatment. Check out there website. http://www.kingsbrass.com/index.htm A bunch of vendors we already visited before the show were all there. It was nice to see Familiar faces. I’m glad for the Men at the show they had a Johnny walker black tasting. I’ve made several trips to that tasting. My fiancée was very impressed with the show. Since we have already booked before the end of 2009 our Photo, Video, Flowers & Hall. We can focus on our upcoming engagement party in a couple of weeks and all of the small details for the wedding.

24M Chinese Grooms available

I came across this article today about 24 Million Men in China that will be unwed by 2020. "The latest figures show that for every 100 girls born in China, 119 boys are born". There will be plenty of groomwar battles in China for future Brides.

Another Ring for Derek Jeter in 2010.

It’s too soon to talk about a World Series ring. I’m talking about a wedding ring. However it was announced yesterday from several websites (yahoo news, espn and etc) that the Yankee Captain Derek Jeter will get married to Minka Kelly on November 5th, 2010 at Long Island's glamorous Oheka Castle. The 100,000-square-foot mansion has been the site of several spectacular weddings. Just last month, Kevin Jonas of the Jonas Brothers was married there.

Unlike the Kevin Jonas I’d expect a Derek Jeter’s wedding will have more celebrity’s especially pro athletes. Plus as pretty as Minka Kelly is I’m sure Jeter would get more attention. Plus I’m sure there will be plenty of women in NY and all over upset when this day actual happens.

I’m sure die-hard Yankee fans/future grooms will flock towards Oheka Castle November 4th and November 6th 2010 to brag to there friends that they got married there the day before and day after Derek Jeter.

As a Yankee Fan I’m sure the best groomsgift Jeter could give his future groomman/fans aYankees World Series champions for the 28th Time. Why not start your honeymoon off going down the canyon of Heroes for another time?

Goals

The weekend is almost over and you have finally recovered from New Years. Its time to get back in shape, mentally, physical and financially. You should write a check list of important things that you need to do this year. You’re getting married at some point this year. Don’t stress out. Look at the smaller things that need to get done before the primary objective. First off you should review your spending habits in 2009. I’m sure there are ways you could of save money. Check out things that you don’t need in 2010. Avoid using other banks to avoid bank fees. Instead of starbucks try dunkin donuts. Join a gym, get a personal trainer, rent DVD’s instead of buying them. So lets discuss goals

1) You want to look and be in your best shape possible for your Wedding or Engagement party during 2010.

2) You want to get the most bang for your buck and actual have bucks to spend before and after your wedding.

3) It’s your party too. You will speak up and add your style to your functions. (DJ, Band, Gift Idea’s or etc) The Sky’s the limit

4) People will go WOW when they attend your functions and will have something to remember.

5) Be the best Groom and take no prisoners

Today starts your clean slate of the year. Forget the past and focus on the future. Plenty of great blog posts ahead from Groomwars.com
